This practical tutorial on Qubes OS will be comprised of presentations intermixed with live demos and is for anyone interested in getting the most out of, or developing for Qubes OS. Some experience with Linux command line recommended. Topics include: 

Part 1 (for Users and Power Users)
  • Basics (Qubes Trusted Desktop, AppVMs, TemplateVMs)
  • Networking (NetVMs, ProxyVMs, Firewalling, TorVM)
  • Storage (Block devices handling, UsbVM)
  • Disposable VMs (Unique features, customization)
  • Qubes Apps (qrexec basics, Split GPG, PDF convert)
  • Windows AppVMs (installation, templates)

Part 2 (for Power Users & Developers)

  • Qubes Inter-VM services/RPC (qrexec, policies)
  • Writing and running "Hello World" qrexec app
  • Porting Window Managers (e.g. porting Awsome)
  • Qubes Builder (unique features, typical workflows)
  • Building new templates (e.g. Debian template)
  • What's coming in Qubes R3/Odyssey
